Two Detentions in the Aftermath of Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
The assault caused the partial closure of the CTA tunnel and the T3 car park.

Two more people are now in custody in connection with a theft at Heathrow Airport in which over twenty individuals sustained injuries by what is thought to be pepper spray, according to police.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area for suspected theft and assault and a 23-year-old woman was detained for suspected conspiring to commit a robbery. They both are still being held, authorities confirmed.

These detentions come after a probe into an assault at the multi-level parking garage at Heathrow's Terminal 3 on Sunday. Prior to the attack, two women were robbed of their suitcases after getting out of a car park lift.

A three-year-old girl was among the injured during the incident. Five people were taken to the hospital for medical care and have since been released.

Officers arrested a man in his thirties on suspicion of theft and assault near the location. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Authorities were called at approximately 8:10 in the morning GMT following reports of a number of individuals hurt by an irritating chemical believed to be an irritant spray.

The assault - which authorities stated was a standalone incident and not considered terrorism - resulted in train delays and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility briefly.
