Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
