The Princess of Wales's Annual Christmas Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.
The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
A Theme of Kindness and Compassion
The central message of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the concert.
A Gradual Return
The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".
Music and Opportunity
Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to widen access to music lessons.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the trust, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.
A Family Affair
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for community pantries.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
